More than a paper summary

Find out whether the evidence deserves to be believed.

The evaluator does not simply repeat the abstract or the authors' conclusions. It checks whether those conclusions are supported by the study methods and results, while keeping study quality separate from whether the treatment produced a meaningful benefit.

What the evaluator tells you

Was the trial designed and conducted properly?Checks the study design, treatment groups, participants, outcome measures, missing data and planned reporting.
How strong are the results?Checks whether the analysis is appropriate, how precisely the effect is estimated and whether the conclusion matches the results.
What do the findings mean?Separately considers plausibility, clinical importance, harms and how well the findings apply beyond the people and setting studied.

A comprehensive, guideline-informed clinical trial evaluation system drawing on CONSORT 2025, Cochrane RoB 2, SPIRIT, GRADE principles and ICH clinical-trial guidance. No weighted total is calculated. A serious problem in a key domain can limit the overall conclusion because some parts of a trial are essential for a fair result.

Linked to the paperEach important judgement identifies the page or section of the paper containing the supporting evidence.
Uncertainty is shown clearlyMissing or incomplete information is labelled as unclear. A method is not assumed to be adequate simply because the paper did not describe it.
Critical weaknesses cannot be averaged outA serious problem with an essential feature—such as randomisation, blinding or analysis—can limit confidence in the study even when other aspects are strong.

About this evaluation

This is an automated, guideline-informed critical appraisal developed by Clinical Research Australia (CRA), a contract research organisation. It applies a structured set of criteria intended to be used consistently, but the algorithm has not been independently validated as a clinical or regulatory decision tool. Unless a report expressly says otherwise, it has not been reviewed or endorsed by a CRA scientist. CRA may have conducted, advised on, or otherwise worked with a study, sponsor, intervention or product being evaluated; users should consider any relevant relationship when interpreting the report. The evaluation is not formal peer review and is not medical, regulatory, legal or investment advice. Important decisions should be checked against the original paper and, where appropriate, reviewed by a suitably qualified independent expert.
